Sports Premium

Our Aim

From September 2013, all schools have been provided with funding to support the Olympic legacy and to enable the delivery of effective sports provision.  Within the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust we aim to provide high quality sport. 

Physical Education at Broad Chalke develops children’s understanding of how physical activity is good for their physical, mental, emotional and social well being. We use a wide range of sports to develop pupil’s skills and children also learn the roles involved in sports beyond that of the competitor, such as time-keepers and scorers. We believe that sport plays a key role in the development of self esteem, self awareness and respect for others and therefore it is high on our list of priorities. Staff at Broad Chalke are committed to developing our delivery of PE lessons and are involved in continuous CPD opportunities.

We believe in the importance of physically active children and as such provide various physically engaging activities during their lunch breaks. Our after school clubs offer a range of opportunities for children to engage in sports, and often these lead into competitive teams outside of school. .

Government Guidance

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

This means that they should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years


At Broad Chalke we aim to use this money to create a sustainable curriculum for all children. Therefore, some of the money provided by the funding will be invested in the professional development of staff and as a result should enhance the quality of teaching for all children. This includes the development of teachers who are experts in particular sports so that they can continue to support the development of both current and new staff. New planning has been developed to create a consistent approach to teaching P.E. across the school. As a result, the quality of children’s learning and development should continue to be improved, both now and in the future.
